Here are some great pre- and post-meeting ideas to share with your attendees

  • You (literally) can't miss the Fernandina Beach Historic District, the island's only real town. Walking tours start at the Old Jail (now the Amelia Island Museum of History). Set aside time to browse the area's collection of antiques and specialty shops.

  • Explore the island's mangrove tunnels and estuaries by kayak with a guided tour from Kayak Amelia. You'll spot plenty of marine life along the way and even learn a thing or two about the area.

  • Eat! This may be a small island, but it caters to those with big appetites. Try local BBQ joints like B.A. Pig, family-style fried chicken dinners at the Frisky Mermaid inside Florida House Inn (Florida's oldest hotel), a cold beer and a burger at Palace Saloon Bar, or the fine dining restaurants at Ritz-Carlton and Amelia Island Plantation.

  • Join the locals at the oft-crowded American Beach, site of Florida's first African-American beach resort community.

  • Watch a living history demonstration performed by period re-enactors at the Civil War-era Fort Clinch.

  • Spend a few hours off the island and on the water: fish with a local guide or cruise area waterways to spot dolphins and toast the sunset.

  • Go horseback riding on the beach at Amelia Island State Park with the folks from Kelly's Seahorse Ranch.

  • "Resort" to taking advantage of the innumerable activities at Amelia Island Plantation and the Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island, which offer everything from special kids' programs to championship golf and world-class spas.
