Sandpearl Achieves LEED Certification
On May 5, 2009, Clearwater Beach's Sandpearl Resort was awarded LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Silver Certification by the U.S. Green Building Council. The Sandpearl is the first property in Florida and one of only 15 other resorts and hotels in the world to receive this designation. LEED certification is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high-performance "green" buildings.

The Sandpearl, which opened in August 2007, is the first resort to be built on Clearwater Beach in 25 years, and developer and owner JMC Communities was committed to protecting the environment and preserving the beauty of Clearwater Beach so it can be shared with generations to come.

"We're honored to receive LEED certification and to be recognized among such an elite group of properties worldwide," said Lee Weeks, CEO of Coral Hospitality, Sandpearl's management company. "This certification is just one more step in achieving our goal of being one of the most environmentally friendly resorts in the country."

Innovations throughout the resort include a geothermal energy system, room-by-room energy management system and a cool-water chiller system instead of air conditioning. These systems provide significant energy savings and high-quality indoor air for guests. Built with materials selected for their low chemical content, and with more than 50 percent of its construction waste recycled, the Sandpearl has met all of the stringent requirements for

LEED certification.

Set on 700 feet of clear Gulf of Mexico shores, the impressive lobby of this distinctive resort is decorated in an upscale tropical style and incorporates the history of the hotel and the area in a collection of paintings by well-known artist Christopher Still.

Accommodations consist of 253 well-appointed Gulf- and Bay-view guest rooms, including 83 suites. Indoor meeting space totaling 15,000 square feet includes the 5,200-square-foot Hunter Ballroom and four executive boardrooms overlooking the Gulf of Mexico. The 6,700-square-foot beachfront Gulf Lawn is ideal for outdoor events, both large and small.

A unique feature of the Sandpearl is the Gulfside Suite, a two-story bedroom and parlor villa with panoramic Gulf views, that is detached from the main hotel for VIP privacy. Private poolside cabanas are available for group use for relaxation, spa services or even as breakout rooms. Amenities include a lagoon-style beachfront pool with private cabanas, unique lifestyle enrichment programs and fine dining at the AAA Four Diamond-rated Caretta on the Gulf.

The Sandpearl Spa offers all-natural products, a full spectrum of services with views of the Gulf and cashmere spa robes. The spa has seven treatment rooms available for group relaxation and features signature services such as the Pearl Irridescence Facial, featuring extracts of powdered pearl, and the Thalasso Bath, a therapeutic "water massage."
